A thermal spraying laboratory initiated by Professor Li Hua began to take shape at the Division of Surface Engineering, the Ningbo Institute of Material and Technology & Engineering, CAS. A series of thermal spraying coatings with excellent properties have been successfully prepared.
As the main part of the lab, a standard thermal spraying room was newly completed in which both sand blasting and thermal spraying are conducted with sound insulation to 80 decibels and wind power for dust extraction up to 10m/s. At the same time, the equipments were settled down in the lab including 2 different types of sand blasting machines and a plasma spraying system set, which thermally work on the surfaces of various components. Currently, the lab has successfully finished preparation of coatings of Al2O3, WC-Co, TiO2 and a series of composite coatings. They were structurally dense with nice binding capacity and excellent protection performances.
As scheduled, a high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying system is ready for installation and moreover, a cold spray system and a supersonic plasma spraying system as well will join the lab soon.
