The division of Fuel Cell and Energy Technology has made a great progress in developing the ultrathin high-strength planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) single cells as well as SOFC stacks. A manufacturing line of the SOFC single cells with the capacity of 2000 pc/month had been set up and taken in use. This line is the first SOFC manufacturing line in China. It produces high performance single cells of Ni-YSZ/YSZ/LSM with the thickness of 0.5 mm. The cells have the bending strength of 200 MPa and the power density of more than 0.4 W·cm-2 at 750ºC. Currently the SOFC single cell products have been sold to England, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan and some Chinese institutes as well. At the same time, there is a big breakthrough in the development of SOFC stacks where a 10-unit stack has been successfully constructed giving the power output of 220 W with the power density of 0.22 W·cm-2 at 750ºC. An excellent long-term behavior has also been achieved in a 5-unit stack where the degrading rate of 6% per 1000 hr is observed after 1400 hours at 750℃ with a constant charging current of 20 A.
