Recently, Prof. CHENG Yufeng from the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Marine Materials at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, was conferred the prestigious Research Excellence Award (lifetime recognition) by the Canadian Metallurgy and Materials Society (MetSoc) during its 64th Annual Conference, in recognition of his lifetime contributions to the materials filed.
This Metsoc Research Excellence Award is the award for a highly significant contribution to teaching and research or outstanding individual work resulting in a significant breakthrough in metallurgy or materials practices. Election for this honor is highly exclusive, with no more than one recipient annually.
Prof. CHENG is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), and has received numerous recognitions from leading agencies and associations. With a global reputation as a leader in energy pipeline research, he specializes in corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen embrittlement, and integrity management of pipelines transporting hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and oil/gas. His research seamlessly integrates fundamental theory with engineering applications, cementing his status as an internationally acclaimed authority in energy pipeline materials research.
Founded in 1945, MetSoc is a constituent society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). It has evolved into one of the world’s leading organizations dedicated to serving the global metallurgy and materials community.
