The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is at the forefront of China's effort to explore and harness advanced technology and natural sciences for the betterment of humanity.
Throughout its history, CAS has relentlessly pioneered scientific and technological exploration, becoming the linchpin of China's emergence as a global science and technology powerhouse. Central to its achievements is also a tireless commitment to innovation.
In honor of the founding of CAS and the People's Republic of China 75 years ago, we present 75 milestones of innovation that have marked CAS's magnificent history as China's science and technology leader.
In 2013, a research team at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering began researching technologies related to industrial diamond production.
After years of exploration, they independently developed a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) system for single crystalline diamond growth, thus achieving CVD single crystalline diamond industrial production via domestic equipment for the first time.
The team has developed the preparation equipment and process for 12-inch large-area diamond growth with independent intellectual property rights, and established the first CVD single crystalline diamond production line in China with annual output capability exceeding two million carats, ranking top three in the world.
