On September 25th, Prof. WANG Liping from the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), won the 2020 XPLORER PRIZE- Advanced Manufacturing.
The award is annually issued since 2019 to recognize up to 50 extraordinarily talented young scientists per year for their outstanding achievements in fundamental science and frontier technologies. WANG is the first scientist from Ningbo won the prize.
Prof. WANG has been devoted to the theoretical and engineering application research on the multi-factor coupling damage and surface multi-path life-extension design of serving materials in special and harsh environments for a long term. He has gradually improved the system of functional films/coatings with toughness-protection integration.
The prize was granted to WANG to recognize his excellent fundamental work in mechanical surface damage and life extension under harsh and extreme environments, and encourage him to continue exploring mechanical surface strong coupling damage and surface-interface effect in extreme service environments in depth.
WANG is the principal author or co-author of 150 papers cited in the Science Citation Index (SCI), including Essential Science Indicators (ESI) highly cited papers, with more than 4600 citations. He has applied for 12 international patents under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) with two patents issued. His research achievements have been successfully applied in high-technology fields of aerospace, marine engineering and equipment, etc.
The XPLORER PRIZE, initiated by MA Huateng, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tencent and Founder of the Tencent Foundation, and other 14 distinguished scientists in China on Tecent’s 20th anniversary in 2018. The prize is a non-governmental and public interest award for young scientists and technicians aged 45 and under who are working full-time in the Chinese mainland,Hong Kong or Macao. Each prize winner will be granted three million RMB by Tencent Foundation over five years.
