On the morning of June 19, the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 2020 Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony and the Degree Conferral Ceremony. A total of 181 postgraduates, including 69 University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) students and 112 students under joint supervision, embarked on their new journey and headed for their next destination.

President HUANG Zhengren extended his best wishes to postgraduates, and expressed genuine gratitude to supervisors and parents for their devotion and support on behalf of NIMTE.

“The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic rendered the year 2020 much more memorable, enhancing our respect for life and concerns for others.” said HUANG, “I hope that you care for the fate of the nation, remain true to the original aspirations, adhere to the mission of redounding upon our nation with science and technology, take the bull by the horns when encountering challenges, and broaden your mind and views, then strive to realize the unity of Inner knowledge and action.”

Prof. XUE Qunji, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed his wishes and hope. “Pursuing truth plays a key role in scientific research,” said XUE. He encouraged the postgraduates improve the ability of resolving problems and adapting to change, learn to be more persistent and confident when in trouble, and hoped that all postgraduates come over to NIMTE with outstanding achievements.

LI Youbing, a Ph.D. student from the Engineering Laboratory of Advanced Energy Materials delivered a speech on behalf of postgraduates. LI said that “We should shoulder the responsibility towards our nation, people and career willingly, transform science and technology into productivity, and contribute to the social prosperity and people's welfare.”

YAO Xiaoyin, a research fellow from the Institute of New Energy Technology shared his feelings and insights with postgraduates. “To enter a new stage of life, you need to set a noval plan, find your own niche, as well as keep improving abilitilies and acquiring knowledge. In addition, you should learn to be brave and persistent, strive for pursuing dreams. I hope that you will abide by social ethics and laws, keep sincere, upright, and grateful at all times,” said YAO.
