The cornerstone laying ceremony for Ningbo College of Materials Technology & Engineering (NCMTE), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) was held on January 23 in Zhenhai District, Ningbo, China.
With an investment of about 700 million yuan (approx. 100 million USD), the college will be built on 6.5 hectares of land with a gross floor area of around 70,000 square meters. After two years of construction, NCMTE will be unveiled and put into use as a campus with an open-style design.
NCMTE will adhere to the philosophy of “being a small but unique international college” to support local industries, and it is expected to have 2,000 postgraduates and a staff of 400 in 2025, according to HUANG Zhengren, director of Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
As a college affiliated to UCAS, NCMTE is an institution jointly supported by the university and Ningbo Municipality and managed by NIMTE.
The college is based on a novel model integrating science and education with a city other than Beijing, marking a milestone for both NIMTE and the local materials industry.
