The 4th Asian Biomaterials Congress (ABMC4), hosted by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HK-UST), was held at a beautiful oceanfront campus of HK-UST in Clearwater Bay of Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong on June 26 to 29, 2013. Prof. Aiguo Wu and Prof. Zheyu Shen from NIMTE were invited to participate at the congress and give an oral presentation.
The Asian Biomaterials Congress (ABMC) is the official conference of the Asian Biomaterials Confederation with members representing biomaterials societies of Asia and Australia. The Confederation is obliged to establish the ‘research-networking’ toward a united Asian-Pacific biomaterials society. ABMC as a biennial event had successfully been held in Japan, Singapore and South Korea before ABMC4 in Hong Kong. ABMC4 continued the tradition of providing premier forum for reporting newly research outcomes and for exchanging creative ideas of biomaterials development among researchers, engineering and medical experts in Asian and Pacific regions and others from America and Europe. The topics of scientific program encompassed the fields of biomaterials science and engineering, biotechnology, biomechanics, clinical science and applications. ABMC4 also aimed at providing a platform for connecting researchers and entrepreneurs to develop innovative biomaterial and biomedical products in Asian-Pacific markets.
Prof. Aiguo Wu, group leader of the Nano Biomaterials Research Group (Group Url: http://nano.nimte.ac.cn/pages/wuaiguo/en/index-En.htm ), gave a presentation in the congress entitled “Metal Oxides based Nanoparticles for Biomedical Imaging, Targeting Drug Delivery and Overcoming Multidrug Resistance”. In this presentation, Prof. Aiguo Wu showed the new data from his research group, including metal oxides-based nanoparticles as imaging agents and therapeutic agents of cancer cells, or drug carriers overcoming multidrug resistance in human breast cancer cells, or drug delivery systems with tumor targetability.
Prof. Zheyu Shen, also from the Nano Biomaterials Research Group gave a talk in the congress focused on “Targeted Drug Delivery Systems towards Cancer Therapy” and proposed some strategies of targeting for the delivery of anti-cancer drug and gene.
