Steven Mesh, a principal designer of Light Education & Design, San Francisco, California, USA was invited by the Institute New Energy Technology to visit NIMTE between 13 to 16 July. He gave an impressive presentation titled “Lighting & Energy Efficiency” yesterday.
As a Lighting designer, Steven has a lot of experience in Lighting Design and Manufacturing. His presentation was vivid and easy to understand even for some unprofessional people. The presentation was mainly composed of three major parts: 1) lighting education, 2) lighting research and 3) lighting consulting. In the first part, Steven showed some special facilities and through simple experiments, told the audience how to use them to measure the number of lumens a bulb produced for each watt it consumed. The small tools and his attractive way of teaching aroused all people’s attention and interest. During the second part, he presented his theory and purpose of lighting design; meanwhile he highlighted the importance of the energy saving around the world and the key role of the lighting design and education playing in this circumstance. In the last part, Steven explained a perfect system of lighting consulting, and taught the audience how much light they need in particular situations, such as reading, watching movies and attending conferences.
After Steven’s presentation, a heated discussion and further exchanges were made by the presenter and the audience. At the same time, Steven Mesh showed a great interest in the joint work with NIMTE in the field of electricity saving. (Jiadan Shen reports)
