Ulf Bossel visited the Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering(NIMTE),the Chinese Academy of Sciences,on January 10,2010 Dr. The mission of Dr. Bossel’s visit was to listen to the evaluation of the FCET on his self-developed stack module as well as to exchange recent progress in SOFC stack technologies. Ulf Bossel received his PhD in aeronautical science from UC Berkeley in 1968 and moved into renewable-energy technologies since 1976.He has been involved in fuel cells and served as manager of ABB's fuel-cell development efforts worldwide.

Dave Ghosh gave a general overview of“Fuel Cell R&D&D at NRC Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation in Canada”.From the introduction,NRC Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation(NRC-IFIC)was established in 2002.Now it has 160 scientist and researchers. NRC as a customer of Division of Fuel Cell&Energy Technology of NIMTE has purchased single cells from NIMTE for several times. This time they also gave a feedback and wished to further cooperate in the future 。 Wei Guo Wang introduced our achievements over the last two years and toured them around the laboratories.

The 2010 Sino-Swedish workshop on fuel cell and application is inspired by the increasing the international interest in solid oxide fuel cells and their applications in distributed power systems. This workshop provided a forum for an intensive discussion and exchange of ideas for both Chinese and Swedish scientists and researchers interested in basic aspects and applications of solid oxide fuel cells 。 Two professors came from Lund University,Bengt Sundén and Jin Liang Yuan gave presentations of“On multiscale and–physics transport phenomena in fuel cells”and“Fuel cell modeling approaches”respectively.

Thin-film transistor(TFT)is a kind of semiconductor device which has widespread application value and prospect in fields of information display and transducer. The wide-band oxide semiconductor gained much attention recently with many advantages such as low temperature filming,high electron mobility and high optical transparency in the visible range. Part results of the studies were published in journal of ACS(ACS Appl. Hong Tao Cao and research team leading by Prof. XRD patterns of the SnOx samples on quartz:(a)as-deposited,(b)annealed 。 Optical transmittance spectra of the as-deposited and the annealed SnO samples 。

This technique can not only avoid inherent risks during dry powder handling but also limit agglomeration and aggregation problems occurred during nanocrystallization,and thus realize green processing of nanomaterials Prof. This advanced method has been developed to produce a wide range of nanostructured thin films. AAID has been used to develope various nanostructured ceramic thin films. AAID has also been applied in the fabrication of thin/superthin polymer films and nanostructured composite coatings. The coating of nanostructured oxide and non-oxide using ESAVD and AAID is advantageous in both aspects of low cost and high performance Dr.

The main achievement of the project was a system of automatic train identification applied in enterprises automatic production lines. The detection speed was as high as 205 articles per minute and the recognition rate was 99.5%. It was understood that Machine Vision using computer vision system which was constituted of computer and associated hardware was an emerging technology. Ningbo Industrial Technology Research Institute will hold a technology exchange meeting to bring the advanced technology into more industries and NITRI will provide better services for local economic development.

The visitors first looked around the laboratories of Functional Materials and Nano-Device Division. They also visited laboratories of Polymer and Composite Division and Magnetic Materials and Devices Division 。 Jodi Vecchiarelli who is the new leader of the UTC Power Program focusing on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells was very interested in further collaboration with NIMTE,especially with Fuel Cell and Energy Technology Division on the development and commercialization of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. This visit will move forward the strategic relationship between UTRC and NIMTE.

On May 27th,Leonard Gary from GE Global Research at Niskayuna NY and his fellows visited Fuel Cell and Energy Technology Division of NIMTE. Wei Guo Wang,Vice Director of NIMTE and Director of Fuel Cell and Energy Technology Division showed them around the laboratories and then hold a communication meeting. Leonard Gary introduced the history of GE and especially GE Global Research. The Principal Engineer of GE Global Research Biederman Bruce made brief introduction of SOFC degradation program at GE Global Research. Both sides were exchanged views on questions of common interests 。

The NIMTE deputy director WANG Weiguo and the department principal of magnetic materials Yan Aru warmly received the guests and held discussions with visiting exchange. Yan Aru introduced the NIMTE research progress on permanent magnetic materials. Schneider introduced the student education on Aalen University,and reported their research on the permanent magnet materials. The performance of this university on International exchanges is pretty good. Especially,there are points in common and co-operation on the field of permanent magnetic materials research with our NIMTE.

Ningbo Institute of Industrial Technology Research(NIITR)is the project phaseⅡof NIMTE. A lot of innovative initiatives are adopted to make into the reality of the construction of NIITR andregional economic development. Under the guideline,enterprises will play a certain role in the construction of NIITR. ,Ltd would provide investment amount of 10 million Yuan to support the construction work of NIITR. Zhu also appeal to the public especially enterprise of Ningbo to think highly of the development of institute and scientific research workers to actualize of their value of life.
