1976: Graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).
1986-1988: Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow, conducting research at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany.
1995: Appointed as Professor at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in the same year.
1999-2001: Served as Secretary of the Party Committee at the Institute of Physics, CAS.
2001-2008: Held the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
2009: Appointed as Director of the State Key Laboratory of Magnetism (Institute of Physics, CAS).
2011: Elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
2012: Concurrently served as Dean of the Department of Physics at the University of Science and Technology of China.
2013: Elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
