NIMTE’s Researcher Attends IUPAC East Asia Research Meeting
The IUPAC East Asia Research Meeting was held in Jeju, Korea on 22-23, 2012, . Around 20 Scientists that came from universities, institutes and companies attended this important event.
The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is an international federation of National Adhering Organizations that represents chemists in individual countries. It is a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The subcommittee of IUPAC mainly focused on the structure and properties of commercial polymers, and this meeting was to review the current progress of projects proposed by companies and researchers.
Dr. Wentao Zhai, from Polymers and Composites Division of NIMTE, was invited by the technical program committee as an observer to report their progress in Relation between rheological properties and foamability for polypropylene. After the project report, Dr Zhai spent some time to briefly introduce their research interests in biodegradable polymer foaming and high-performance polymer foaming. His report attracted the researchers’ attention, and interesting discussions and new ideas were generated during the presentation. In the proposal of the Chairman, Prof. Toshikazu Takigawa, Dr. Wentao Zhai and two professors from Korea were approved as new members of IUPAC.
During the meeting, Dr. Zhai visited the Faculty of Mechanical & System Engineering, Jeju National University, and built potential cooperation with Prof. Dong-Won Jung on PLA foaming and molding. (Wentao Zhai reports.)
