Academic Lecture: From Pixels to Products Automated Biomedical Image Processing Solutions for End Users
Jul 27, 2026

SPEAKER: Dr. Başak Esin Köktürk-Güzel

TIME: 15:00, Jul. 21, 2026

VENUE: Room 4008, Cixi Campus, NIMTE

Abstract:

The gap between a promising biomedical imaging method in the lab and a reliable product in the hands of clinicians and researchers remains one of the most challenging hurdles in the field. This talk is about closing it. It follows the biomedical image processing pipeline—from acquisition and preprocessing through segmentation to classification—alongside the parallel demands of building a real product: diverse data, clinical validation, regulatory approval, and usable design. To demonstrate this journey in practice, three distinct case studies will be presented: automated MR defacing, which enables privacy-preserving data sharing for clinical research; deep-learning microscopy analysis for the automated evaluation of organ-on-chip platforms; and smartphone-based biosensors that bring point-of-care imaging to the early detection of pancreatic cancer.
