Abstract:
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming biomedical imaging by enabling automated interpretation of complex microscopic and medical images. This talk presents our recent research on AI-driven analysis across multiple spatial scales, ranging from cellular microscopy to multimodal clinical imaging. After briefly introducing recent advances in deep learning, foundation models, and generative AI, the presentation highlights our work on dendritic spine analysis, wound healing and cell motility assessment, organ-on-chip microscopy, and clinically deployed AI systems for CT and MRI. Finally, ongoing international projects on correlative nanoscopy, multimodal precision oncology and next-generation AI-assisted biomedical imaging will be presented, together with future research directions involving multimodal learning, self-supervised learning and foundation models.
Speaker Biography:
Devrim received the BSc degree in electrical and electronics engineering and the MSc degree in biomedical engineering from Boğaziçi University, Türkiye, and the PhD degree in applied sciences from the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons, Belgium. He was a Senior Scientist and a Marie Curie Fellow with the Video Processing and Analysis Group, Philips Research Eindhoven, The Netherlands, a Visiting Researcher with the VPA Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabancı University, İstanbul, Türkiye, and a Faculty Member with the Biomedical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Bahçeşehir University, İstanbul. He served as the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, İzmir University of Economics, Türkiye.
He is currently Professor, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Vice Rector for Research at İzmir Demokrasi University, Türkiye, and co-founder and data scientist at Zoi Data. His current research focuses on AI-driven biomedical image analysis, multimodal medical imaging, computational microscopy, correlative nanoscopy, generative artificial intelligence, organ-on-chip image analysis, and AI-assisted precision oncology. He currently leads several national and international research projects funded by TÜBİTAK, ERA-NET NEURON, and the TÜBİTAK–MCID bilateral program.
He is currently serving as a Member of the Tübitak ARDEB Electrical, Electronics and Informatics Research Group (EEEAG) Steering Committee, and EURASIP Biomedical Image and Signal Analytics (BISA) Technical Area Committee. He previously served as a Member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, Bio Imaging and Signal Processing Technical Committee (BISP TC), and chaired the IEEE Signal Processing Society Challenges and Data Collections (CDC) Technical Committee.
